"Battle of the Books promotes a love of reading in kids and teens, exposes them to titles and authors that they might not encounter otherwise, encourages them to think of their local public library as a resource for entertainment and, perhaps most important, inspires teamwork and good sportsmanship in an atmosphere of friendly competition," said Liz Anastasi, reference and young adult librarian at the Field Library in Peekskill The battle consists of students who are entering grades 4-9 participating in a fast-paced trivia competition. Seventeen libraries across Westchester County will participate, and many have begun to form teams and have practice sessions.
