Peekskill residents will be shivering for a good reason when they take the charge into icy waters during the 5th annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, Jan. 1. Planned by the This is Me Foundation, and sponsored by The Quiet Man Public House, all proceeds from the plunge go towards college scholarships for local students who have faced adversity, or helped a friend through adversity, as well as national scholarships to students who have alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. A New York State Police trooper was involved in a head-on collision in Peekskill Monday night when a driver strayed through a double yellow and struck an officer traveling from the Cortlandt barracks. Police confirmed that shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Monday night, a trooper was traveling westbound on Bear Mountain Bridge Road, when a driver in a Nissan sedan "failed to keep right and crossed into the westbound lane," where he struck the trooper head-on.
