Peekskill Man Sentenced For Selling Heroin That Killed 23-Year-Old

A Peekskill man was sentenced Thursday to 186 months in prison for conspiring to distribute more than a kilogram of heroin in and around Westchester County during 2014, and distributing the heroin and fentanyl that resulted in the overdose death of a 23-year-old man, according to Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. The defendant, Lakun Rhyne, pleaded guilty to a felony information in White Plains federal court on April 21, 2016, before U.S. District Judge Nelson S. RomA n, who imposed Thursday's sentence.

Moose On Loose Spotted Near Peekskill Now 'Likely Out Of Area'

The moose that captivated residents in Northern Westchester and the surrounding area a few weeks ago appears to have moved on to greener pastures. Peekskill police are asking for the public's help in identifying the person who has been dumping contaminated soil at a local school. Twice black plastic bags containing soil tainted with either gasoline or home heating oil have been left in trash cans at the Woodside Elementary School on Depew Street, police said.

Peekskill Liquor Store Owner Must Move For New Central Fire Station

David Pacchiana thought his liquor store had a secure home through at least 2020, but when plans to build a new firehouse meant the demolition of the building his business called home, he found himself the only loser in a case of eminent domain, according to The Examiner. The initial plan for the central fire station called for several businesses in the Crossroads Shopping Center to be moved elsewhere, but the plan eventually settled upon by Peekskill officials singled out Pacchiana's business, according to The Examiner, which reported that the new $11.9 million firehouse will house five of city's six volunteer fire companies.

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced the guilty plea of Arthur Anyah, owner of Mical Home Health Care Agency, Inc. , located in Peekskill, New York, for failing to pay wages to at least 67 employees, engaging in a scheme to induce workers to work despite not being paid, as well as falsifying business records, and defrauding the state unemployment insurance contribution system. Anyah pled guilty to the top counts in the indictment which included Class E Felonies of Scheme to Defraud, Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree, as well as misdemeanors, Failure to Pay Wages, and Willful Failure to Pay a Contribution to the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
